Über Universitätsklinikum Bonn

The University Hospital Bonn (UKB) is one of Germany’s leading university hospitals, combining top-level performance in medicine and research with excellence in teaching. Each year, more than half a million patients receive inpatient and outpatient care at the UKB. Around 3,500 students study medicine and dentistry here, and over 600 people are trained annually in healthcare professions. With approximately 9,900 employees, the UKB is the third-largest employer in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg region. In the Focus hospital ranking, the UKB ranks first among university hospitals in North Rhine-Westphalia and second nationwide in terms of case mix index (case severity). In 2024, the UKB raised nearly €100 million in third party funding for research, development, and teaching. The F.A.Z. Institute has named the UKB “Germany’s Training Champion” and “Germany’s Most Attractive Employer” for the fourth consecutive year.

The group of Prof. Dr. med. Kaan Boztug at the Clinic of Pediatric Immunology and Rheumatology (Centre of Pediatric, University Hospital Bonn) offers a

Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) or equivalent qualification (TV-L EG9) (m/f/d) (full-time position 100 % ~ 38,5 h/week)
Start date: January 2026

Prof. Boztug’s research program bridges fundamental discoveries in immune dysregulation with clinical translation . The laboratory focuses on identifying inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) and dissecting their underlying molecular mechanisms, with the ultimate goal of advancing precision medicine for immune-mediated diseases.
The group employs a combination of model organism research, including zebrafish and mouse models, together with translational approaches, enabling detailed study of the molecular and cellular processes driving immune dysfunction. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of rare immune disorders and supports the development of innovative therapeutic strategies. We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Assistant (MTA) to join our team starting January 2026 and support ongoing research projects using zebrafish as a model system. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Castanon, a senior scientist with extensive expertise in zebrafish research. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment, contribute to cutting-edge immunology research, and be an integral part of a collaborative scientific team.

Aufgaben

  • Maintenance, breeding, and care of zebrafish lines modelling monogenic immune disorders
  • Microinjection and CRISPR/Cas9-based generation of mutant zebrafish lines
  • Genotyping and phenotyping of zebrafish models
  • Support experiments in disease modelling, including imaging and molecular analyses
  • Laboratory organization and maintenance of experimental records
  • Collaboration with PhD students and postdocs on project-related tasks

Fähigkeiten

  • Completed training as BTA or equivalent qualification (m/f/d)
  • Proven experience in zebrafish maintenance and handling, including breeding, genotyping and phenotyping
  • Knowledge of animal welfare regulations and laboratory safety standards
  • Ideally, FELASA certification (or willingness to obtain it quickly)
  • Experience with molecular biology and imaging is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
